Marseille Axes Gattuso, Appoints Gasset as New Manager
In a surprising turn of events in the football world, Marseille has bid farewell to Gennaro Gattuso and welcomed Jean-Louis Gasset as their new manager. The decision comes as Marseille currently holds the ninth spot in Ligue 1.
Gattuso’s tenure at the French club saw mixed results with only nine wins out of his 24 matches as manager, coupled with six losses. On the other hand, Gasset, aged 70, previously managed Ivory Coast before being dismissed following the Africa Cup of Nations group stage; however, his former team went on to win the tournament.
“Olympique de Marseille announces the end of its collaboration with Gennaro Gattuso,” stated a spokesperson for Marseille. The club expressed gratitude towards Gattuso and his team for their dedication and professionalism while wishing them success in their future endeavors.
Having taken over from Marcelino in late September last year after a brief stint at Villarreal FC, Gattuso brought experience from managing top clubs such as AC Milan, Napoli, and Valencia during his coaching career.
