A Roaring Redemption: Running Lion Seeks Classic Glory in Prix de Diane Longines

Running Lion aims for Classic redemption in Prix de Diane Longines

Excitement is building up ahead of the Prix de Diane Longines at Chantilly where Running Lion, a daughter of Clarehaven’s multiple Group One winner Roaring Lion, will bid to give John and Thady Gosden back-to-back victories. The filly was unbeaten in four races after finishing fourth on debut last summer. She took her form to the next level when claiming victory at the Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket last month.

The Betfred Oaks was her next target but she got upset in the stalls before being withdrawn. Her stablemate Soul Sister went on to win instead which left Oisin Murphy frustrated as he watched from afar. However, Running Lion is now reported to be none worse for that eventful few moments and will get a second chance to secure Classic honours.

Fellow British raider Novakai brings solid group-race form having chased home Polly Pott and Commissioning in May Hill and Fillies’ Mile respectively last term. This has always been Karl Burke’s filly’s target who runs in Sheikh Mohammed Obaid’s colours.

Joseph O’Brien’s Caroline Street also among contenders

Joseph O’Brien’s Caroline Street finished second behind Derby hero Auguste Rodin in Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown as a two-year-old. She won her first outing this season when stepped up 10 furlongs at Naas while Brother Donnacha and Father Aidan have won this prestigious contest twice out of three years with their entries.

This year, it would be fitting if Joseph added his name to the roll of honour with talented No Nay Never daughter – Caroline Street.

Poule d’Essai des Pouliches fifth Never Ending Story to represent Ballydoyle

The all-conquering trainer of Ballydoyle saddles Poule d’Essai des Pouliches fifth Never Ending Story. Her big-race pilot Ryan Moore expects her to improve on that showing now upped in distance.

This is one of the deepest and most competitive Classic races you will find, with a lot of talent on show and 15 runners. Luck will play a crucial role for all contenders.
