Leeds United chairman, Andrea Radrizzani, admits change is necessary following the club’s relegation.
The future of Leeds United hangs in the balance as their chairman, Andrea Radrizzani, recognises that significant changes are required following the team’s Premier League relegation. Fans made their opinion known at Sunday’s home game against Tottenham with chants demanding Radrizzani leave after a disappointing season culminated in defeat and demotion from England’s top flight.
Radrizzani apologised to fans on the day he reached an agreement to buy Italian Serie A team Sampdoria and vowed commitment to moving forward despite uncertainty surrounding the team. “We have made significant investments to try to keep Leeds United in the Premier League but working hard has led us down a path where mistakes were made,” said Radrizzani. “Now we need a clear strategy for our vision and focus on achieving results.”
Radrizzani purchased Leeds United for £45m back in 2017 where Marcelo Bielsa took them through two strong seasons which helped lead them back into England’s highest division after almost two decades of absence.
Uncertainty looms over key appointments
A key factor going forward will be “some key appointments” including who will fill Victor Orta’s shoes since his departure as Director of Football earlier this month. Sam Allardyce recently signed up as interim manager with four games left inside EPL last season before being relegated again.
Cross-club ownership leads many questions
In what could add to Leeds United’s discontinuity, Radrizzani recently invested in Serie A team Sampdoria with his business partner Matteo Manfredi.
The Italian club confirmed on Wednesday that its shareholders had given the green light for a restructuring deal paving the way towards a full takeover by Radrizzani and Manfredi. Radrizzani says he intends to be involved with both clubs, but only time will tell whether this works or becomes more of an issue as each team requires coordination and a dedicated strategy.
“I do not like to make false promises; there is still much work left undone, and change is required,” said Radrizzani. We can only wait and watch what moves are next from Andrea Radrazzini.
