Barcelona president Laporta claims Messi belongs at home
Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, has come out in support of the club’s move to re-sign Lionel Messi this summer. As per reports, the Argentine is currently linked with a move to Saudi Arabia as his contract at Paris St-Germain comes to an end in June.
In an interview with Spanish broadcaster TV3, Laporta indicated that he believes that Barcelona can compete against anyone for 35-year-old Messi’s signature. He added that “history backs us and our feelings are too strong,” referring to Barca being home for him as he spent 21 years at Camp Nou before leaving two years ago.
Messi has not had much success during his stint in France and was even booed by fans after their last match against Ajaccio over the weekend. However, according to Laporta, there was an “affectionate conversation” between him and Messi where he congratulated the player on winning the World Cup held in Qatar last year.
Laporta knows it will be challenging considering other clubs’ interest but highlighted that Barca stands out among all others; however, they have to wait until PSG’s season ends before talking more calmly about bringing back their legend because right now ‘he is a Paris Saint-Germain Player.’
