Bournemouth Fires Gary O’Neil and Hires Andoni Iraola as Head Coach on a Two-Year Contract

Bournemouth Appoints Andoni Iraola as Head Coach

The football world is buzzing with excitement after Bournemouth announced the appointment of Andoni Iraola as their new head coach. The Spaniard replaces Gary O’Neil, who was sacked earlier this week.

Iraola brings a wealth of experience to the role and has signed a two-year deal with the Cherries following his departure from La Liga side Rayo Vallecano.

During his three-year stint at Rayo Vallecano, Iraola guided them to an impressive 11th place finish in the Spanish top flight last season. He also secured promotion for the Madrid club from Segunda Division in his first year in charge before leading them to the Copa Del Rey semi-finals during the 2021-22 campaign.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Andoni to our team,” said Bournemouth chairman Bill Foley. “His style of play and achievements in Spain have been very impressive, making him highly sought after by other clubs across Europe.”

Foley added that they wanted to act quickly since Iraola’s contract in Spain was coming up for expiry this summer. With several transfer targets identified along with January additions, Bournemouth is confident that they can consolidate their Premier League status under Iraola’s leadership and keep progressing towards greater success on the field.

A Look at Andoni Iraola’s Career

    • As a player, former right-back Iraola made over 500 appearances for Athletic Bilbao and won seven international caps for Spain.
    • He also played Major League Soccer (MLS) football for New York City FC before retiring from playing professional football in May 2018.
    • In the same year, he started his managerial career in Cyprus with AEK Larnaca before returning to Spain to manage Mirandes for one season.
    • His successful tenure at Rayo Vallecano has now brought him to Bournemouth, where he will join up with the squad ahead of pre-season starting in July.

    The Future Looks Bright

Bournemouth fans can look forward to an exciting future under Iraola’s leadership. With his impressive track record and style of play, he is sure to bring a new dimension to the club’s playing style and help them achieve even greater success on the field.

We cannot wait for what lies ahead!
