Former Leicester City Manager Claudio Ranieri Weeps After Cagliari’s Promotion to Serie A
Claudio Ranieri, the former manager of Leicester City, was brought to tears after leading Cagliari to win promotion to Italy’s Serie A in a dramatic turn of events. The team secured their victory with a 2-1 aggregate win over Bari at Stadio San Nicola on Sunday.
Ranieri, who returned for his second stint at Cagliari in January, said that “Cagliari means everything” to him. He previously oversaw successive promotions during his first spell from 1998 to 1991 and took them from Serie C all the way up to Serie A.
The Emotional Victory
Ranieri couldn’t contain his emotions as he spoke about how much joy giving fans had given him. “Having given joy such a passionate group of supporters makes me so proud,” he said while wiping away tears.
“My feeling for this shirt is authentic. I remember when I won the Premier League [with Leicester], I immediately thought about the Rossoblu colours.”
He continued by thanking those who brought him back and expressing gratitude towards everyone who supported them until the end of their journey back into Serie A.
