Wolves Manager Julen Lopetegui’s Future in Doubt Due to Club’s Financial Situation
The future of Wolves manager, Julen Lopetegui is now uncertain due to the club’s financial situation. According to Spanish football journalist, Guillem Balague, the Spaniard might be facing an unknown fate at the club given their inability to get promised signings or investments and resorting instead, selling players to keep up with FFP.
Lopetegui had said it would be challenging for Wolverhampton Wanderers FC (Wolves) team to compete favourably in the Premier League without investment last week before he became aware of their financial fair play problems.
Breaking Down The Club’s Financial Woes:
Premier League rules indicate that clubs can only accumulate losses worth £105m over three years. In their last published results, Wolves posted a loss amounting to £46.1m before adding ten senior players this season plus two extra on loan which implies they will record further losses when they publish their next accounts.
A Glance at Lopetegui’s Tenure so far:
Led by former Spain and Real Madrid boss Julen Loptegegui from November till date after being appointed during a time when the club was bottom of the league table; thus avoiding relegation spots comfortably as well as securing top-flight status with three remaining matches left on deck. Currently placed 13th on standings board having won nine out of his 22 league games in charge.
However, in a recent meeting with the chairman Jeff Shi, Lopetegui was made aware of some issues he wasn’t previously privy to.
In conclusion, it is not yet clear what the outcome of talks this week between Wolves and Lopetegui would be but there are indications that his future at the club may be hanging by a thread due to financial difficulties which have restricted investment and signings.
