Homecoming Triumph for Claressa Shields as She Defends Undisputed Crown in Detroit, Opponent Hails Her as the Greatest Woman of All Time (GWOAT)
Astonishing Victory for Claressa Shields in Detroit!
On Saturday night, the boxing world witnessed a spectacular performance from Claressa Shields as she successfully defended her undisputed middleweight title against Maricela Cornejo. The fight took place at an electric atmosphere in Detroit, where more than 11,000 fans gathered to witness history.
The Greatest of All Time?
Shields’ dominance inside the ring has earned her two Olympic gold medals and professional titles across three weight classes – super welterweight, middleweight, and super middleweight. After this latest victory over Cornejo (16-6), many are hailing Shields as the “Greatest Woman of All Time” or GWOAT.
An Unforgettable Showdown
In the early rounds of the fight, it appeared that Cornejo might give Shields some trouble with her solid jab and movement away from Shield’s powerful right hand. However, it was not enough to keep the champion from coming forward.
In round five, an accidental head-butt opened a cut above Cornejo’s eye which led to more significant challenges for her later on in the fight. In round seven,
“The only thing I could have done better than I did tonight was get a knockout,” said Shields after winning by unanimous decision with scores of 100-89 on one card and at least two judges scoring it as a shutout win (100-90).
Cornejo Thanks Shields for Opportunity
Although Cornejo (16-6) hasn’t beaten an opponent with a winning record in more than four years, she thanked Shields for the opportunity to step into the ring and said:
“You’ve created a movement in women’s boxing, and you really are the GWOAT [greatest woman of all time],” she said. “After fighting you, I’m ready to go back to 154 pounds or even 147.”
The Future is Bright for Claressa Shields
Claressa Shield’s future looks bright, as she continues her remarkable career with yet another victory under her belt. Despite being originally scheduled to fight Hanna Gabriels who knocked her down in 2018 before losing a unanimous decision – this latest win has cemented Shields’ status as one of the best female boxers of all time.
