Kyrgios Pulls Out of Halle Open Due to Knee Injury

Australian Tennis Star Nick Kyrgios Pulls Out of Halle Open Due to Lingering Knee Issue

The 28-year-old Australian tennis player, Nick Kyrgios, has withdrawn his participation from the Halle Open due to an ongoing knee problem that he has been struggling with for quite some time.

Kyrgios underwent surgery on his left knee earlier this year and has only played one match in the past five months. He was forced to pull out of the tournament after a disappointing first-round loss to China’s Wu Yibing at Stuttgart Open last week where he struggled with movement during a straight-set defeat.

Runner-up at the All England Club last year, Kyrgios expressed how much Wimbledon means to him and plans on taking every step necessary towards ensuring his body is healthy enough for it. “As you all know, that tournament [Wimbledon] means a lot to me and I just want to do everything right by my body,” Kyrgios added.

The semi-finalist at Halle last year made his maiden Grand Slam final appearance at Wimbledon where he lost out against Novak Djokovic in what was an intense battle between two top players in their prime.

In a video released by Halle’s organizers following his withdrawal announcement, Kyrgios mentioned that he is still dealing with “a couple of things with my knee”. He further stated: “I didn’t want to go out there and not give you the same performance I gave last year [at Halle]. So hopefully next year I’ll be healthy enough to play.”

After his recent loss in Stuttgart, Kyrgios tweeted: “It’s a process to get back to where I was. I know it’s hard for you to see me perform like today, but I need more time and hopefully can get back to where I was.” Currently scheduled to play in Mallorca next week, the Australian is hoping that he will recover fully before Wimbledon starts on 3 July.

    Conclusion

Nick Kyrgios’ withdrawal from the Halle Open due to an ongoing knee problem has sparked concerns about his fitness ahead of Wimbledon. The Australian tennis star underwent surgery earlier this year and has only played one match since then. With just weeks left before the Grand Slam event begins, fans are eagerly waiting for updates on Nick Kyrgios’ health status as they hope he recovers in time for the main event.
