Spain secures an epic victory over England to reach the U17 European Championship final
The Spain Under-17 women’s football team has reached the finals of the UEFA European Championships after securing a hard-fought 3-1 win over England.
In what was undoubtedly one of the most compelling matches in this year’s championship, Pau and Ainoa Gomez scored two late goals for Spain to secure their place in Friday’s finals against France.
The Match Results:
- Ainoa Gomez gave Spain the lead (88′) with a deflection off Mari Ward.
- Katie Reid equalized for England (second half) after Vicky Lopez opened scoring for Spain.
- Pau sealed victory for Spain in stoppage time.
England came close to equalising late on but were denied by an excellent save from Spanish goalkeeper Alazne Estensoro who managed to divert Michelle Agyemang’s ball away from goal.
In their desperation to force penalties, The Young Lionesses threw everything they had at it, however, failed and that enabled Pau to break down on the other end and slot home her second goal of the match which eventually secured their spot at Finals!
The fans couldn’t have asked more as both teams played exceptionally well throughout! However, it will be Spain who will compete against France in the finals on Friday, and fans can’t wait for what’s expected to be an even more exciting match!
