    Liverpool Hires New Sporting Director Jorg Schmadtke to Bolster Club’s Management

    Liverpool Appoint Jorg Schmadtke as Sporting Director

    Liverpool Football Club has announced the appointment of Jorg Schmadtke, a former Wolfsburg sporting director, as their new sporting director. He will replace Julian Ward who vacated the role after 11 years at Anfield. Schmadtke’s wealth of knowledge and experience makes him a valuable addition to Liverpool’s football operations department. The club aims to continue providing support for manager Jurgen Klopp while growing and developing in all areas. Previously with Wolfsburg, where he held the same position until February this year, Schmadtke helped qualify his team for the Champions League by finishing fourth in Bundesliga at the end of last season. This decision comes on the back of Liverpool’s disappointing season which saw them finish outside Champions League qualification spots for the first time since 2016-17. Additionally, they were knocked out from both FA Cup and EFL Cup in fourth-round exits while also getting eliminated from Champions League by Real Madrid in last 16. Despite these struggles this season, Klopp is confident that his team will bounce back next campaign for another trophy challenge. With summer transfer window approaching fast following exits of James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Roberto Firmino – Liverpool is expected to be busy trying to improve their squad further.

    Former Goalkeeper Brings Knowledge & Experience

    Jorg Schmadtke ended his four-and-a-half-year stint at Wolfsburg before joining Liverpool recently as their new sporting director replacing Julian Ward. The previous goalkeeper understands what it takes on-field action which can help him bring much-needed value into off-field decisions-making process behind-the-scenes such an experienced person can only benefit everyone involved with LFC. Moreover adding someone like Schmardkte brings a level of continuity through change being able to work well with a football operations department that can provide support for manager Klopp. Schmadtke’s recent experience in Germany made him perfect candidate for Liverpool’s sporting director role as the club aims to keep growing and developing in all areas.


    Liverpool has acted quickly by appointing Schmadtke after Julian Ward vacated his position recently. The former Wolfsburg goalkeeper brings much-needed knowledge, experience and continuity to LFC while aiming to help grow & develop behind-the-scenes decisions making processes which can only benefit everyone involved. With this new appointment, Liverpool will hope they’re on the right direction towards better seasons ahead of them, especially since they’ve had a disappointing run at different competitions this season.
