Marc Marquez reveals the psychological impact of frequent crashes in MotoGP

Marquez remains optimistic despite Honda’s poor performance

Honda has had a tumultuous season so far, with its troubled bike proving to be a major hindrance for the riders. The only bright spots have been Alex Rins’ victory in Austin and Marquez’s sprint podium finish in Portugal.

The Mugello race was marked by Joan Mir’s withdrawal due to an injury sustained during practice and Rins’ surgery after breaking his leg during the sprint contest. Despite starting second on the grid, Marquez crashed out of Sunday’s grand prix while running in fourth position.

This marks his third grand prix crash this year, following similar incidents at the French GP where he was running second and at Portugal where he broke his thumb. When asked if he could remain confident heading into Sachsenring next weekend given Honda’s current form, Marquez said that it is hard to say as they are not arriving there at their best moment.

He further added that “The problem is we are taking a lot of risks” which has resulted in numerous crashes this season. He admitted that it is difficult on the mental side but he keeps pushing himself because he knows what he can do based on past performances.

While crashes have become commonplace for Honda riders this year, Marquez confessed that his exit from Mugello GP came unexpectedly early. He stated that although he used soft tires to keep them fresh throughout the race, it did not help much as he lost several positions at the start due to some technical issues they encountered earlier during sprints.

Additonally, another reason why things didn’t go according to plan was when there were two occasions when Marques experienced locks while braking causing him almost crashing twice before finally losing control altogether and crashing out of the race. He explained that he didn’t understand what happened in both instances but attributed it to similar experiences at Portimao.

Despite facing multiple challenges, Marquez remains optimistic about his future performances and is determined to push through this rough patch with unwavering determination.
