Roberto de Zerbi Believes Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister are Ready for Higher Level of Play, Claims Brighton Players Should Move On

Brighton Boss Hints at Departure of Two Key Players Despite European Qualification

Roberto de Zerbi, the Brighton boss, has suggested that two of his star midfielders could be leaving this summer. Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister have been linked with moves to rival clubs after their impressive performances in the Premier League this season.

De Zerbi acknowledged that both players deserved to play in “another level” and would not begrudge them if they decided to leave. He stated, “The players have one career, one life and we can’t decide for them.” Arsenal had reportedly made a bid for Ecuador international Caicedo last January but was rejected by Brighton. Meanwhile, World Cup-winning Argentine Mac Allister is heavily linked with Liverpool.

Brighton has secured a place in Europe for the first time ever courtesy of their victory over Southampton on Sunday. However, despite having qualified for the Europa Conference League already assured, De Zerbi hopes it will entice both midfielders to stay.

    Aiming High

The Seagulls are almost certain of finishing sixth – their highest ever finish in the top flight – because of their superior goal difference over seventh-placed Aston Villa. A point against Manchester City on Wednesday will see them qualify for the more prestigious Europa League competition.

Although De Zerbi’s team has already secured football outside England next season he says his side would aim higher than just playing conference football league saying “If we have the possibility to play in a more prestigious competition, we have to try it.”

    Praise For Guardiola

When asked about his opposite number Pep Guardiola, De Zerbi praised the Man City boss calling him “one of the most influential managers in the last 20 years”, and said that he had helped him settle into life in England. He further added, “My opinion is he is the best coach in the Premier League and the best coach in the last 30 years.”
