South African winger Aphiwe Dyantyi joins Sharks rugby team following a four-year suspension for doping
South African winger Aphiwe Dyantyi signs for Sharks after serving four-year doping ban
After completing his four-year suspension, Aphiwe Dyantyi is now ready to make a comeback in the rugby scene. The South African player signed up with the Sharks and expressed his excitement to be back on the field and play again.
Dyantyi was awarded as the World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year in 2018 when he scored six tries in 13 Tests for South Africa. However, things took a turn in 2019 when he tested positive for multiple anabolic steroids, resulting in his suspension from playing.
The former Lions winger denied any wrongdoing and stated that he accidentally ingested banned substances. Despite this claim, his suspension remained valid until August of this year.
If not for the unfortunate incident, Dyanti would have been included in Springboks’ team during their campaign at Rugby World Cup held that same year.
“More than anything else,” said Dyanti “I’m just excited to be back.” He also added that he trusts everyone’s eagerness to see him perform once more on the field.
