The Perfect Fight: Billam-Smith vs Okolie
Local hero Chris Billam-Smith is ready to take on former training partner Lawrence Okolie in the ultimate showdown for the WBO cruiserweight title. The highly anticipated all-English clash will take place at Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth and promises to be an unforgettable event.
Billed as the “perfect fight”, this battle between two undefeated fighters with a shared history is sure to be one of the most exciting bouts of recent years. Both boxers have been preparing intensely, determined to come out on top and secure their place in boxing history.
A Dream Come True
For Billam-Smith, fighting for a world title in his hometown is a dream come true. The opportunity to win against someone he knows well has only added fuel to his fire. Having sparred with Okolie around 300 times before, he feels confident that he knows what it takes to beat him.
“The dream for any fighter is to be world champion,” says Billam-Smith. “And this opportunity I’ve got, it’s down to me now to fulfil my dream.”
A Game Plan For Success
Billam-Smith understands just how difficult it can be landing punches on his former stablemate – but he has a clear game plan:
“Once you get landing on him [Okolie], he’s good at tying you up so you’ve just got hit him – hit him often… No one has really done that [landed frequently]. Maybe caught him with a little shot here and there. That’s the game plan – hit him and hit him often.”
Despite the animosity that can often arise between fighters, Billam-Smith has no doubt that he and Okolie will remain friends after the fight:
“I can’t see why not, from my point of view. But it will be his first loss so it depends how he takes it!”
