Addison Urges Ulster to Respond Against Edinburgh in Preparation for European Matches

Finding Redemption: Will Addison Aims to Help Ulster Bounce Back

Fit-again and fired up, Will Addison reveals that he still can’t believe his luck as he prepares to assist Ulster in their quest for victory against Edinburgh before diving into the European campaign.

Last week, Ulster suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of Glasgow, marking their second loss of the United Rugby Championship season with a scoreline of 33-20. Now, Addison is rallying his teammates for a strong response this weekend ahead of crucial European clashes.

“We undeniably need a reaction,” asserts Addison. “And what better stage than our own turf, embraced by an enthusiastic crowd as we gear up for significant European encounters? We have countless sources of motivation and inspiration heading into this game – one such aspect being the desire to rectify last week’s performance.”

Addison’s return to action this season has been nothing short of remarkable following his nearly two-year absence due to a leg break back in 2021. His road to recovery was fraught with obstacles including medical setbacks such as surgeries, infections, and even blood clots.

“I still can’t quite believe my fortune,” admits the seasoned player. “It truly feels like a blessing every time I step onto that field on match day.”

Since his victorious return, Addison – who boasts five Ireland caps – has appeared in three league matches. Now, he’s eagerly anticipating the opportunity to build momentum against Edinburgh before facing off against Bath and Racing 92 in back-to-back Champions Cup games on December 9th and 16th respectively.

“Building momentum for our European campaign is paramount,” emphasizes Addison. “The quality of our league has progressed significantly over recent years due, in part, to the inclusion of South African teams. Consequently, maintaining consistency becomes increasingly challenging.”

Dwayne Peel had once enlightened Addison about the distinct emphasis placed on European competition at Ulster compared to his prior experience at Sale Rugby Club. This observation couldn’t ring truer.

The legacy left behind by Ulster’s triumphant victory in 1999 continues fueling anticipation throughout both the city and club when it comes down to European fixtures—a level unmatched elsewhere.

Addison can sense the palpable excitement behind the scenes as they gear up for a monumental clash this weekend, paving the way for subsequent high-stake encounters in the weeks to come.
