Boost for Yorkshire vs Glamorgan in County Championship: Bean and Masood provide support

Batting Brilliance Puts Yorkshire in Control against Glamorgan

In a display of sheer dominance, Yorkshire took charge on the first day against Glamorgan thanks to impressive centuries from Shan Masood and Finlay Bean.

Masood’s stunning knock of 113 not out marked his maiden century for Yorkshire, following his exceptional performances for Derbyshire in 2022.

Glamorgan struggled to contain the strong batting lineup as Jamie McIlroy emerged as their best bowler with figures of 2-41.

The home team faced an additional setback when talented all-rounder Ben Kellaway suffered a potential concussion after hitting his head on the ground. The incident forced him off the field during play.

Despite morning showers delaying the start until midday, Adam Lyth and Bean opened up confidently under gloomy skies. They navigated through the first session comfortably without encountering any major difficulties on a pitch previously used for a one-day international just two days ago.

Glamorgan felt the absence of their key pace bowler Timm van der Gugten as they lacked significant pace and immediate threat in their attack. However, McIlroy posed challenges with precise bowling and made an impact by dismissing Lyth (49) who fell victim to an expansive shot that dragged onto his stumps from outside off.

Masood had some uncertain moments initially but quickly found his rhythm as Yorkshire accelerated their scoring rate at five runs per over in the afternoon sunshine. They reached the 200-run mark in just the 45th over.

Glamorgan’s woes continued as Kellaway departed during the second session, sustaining a head injury while attempting to stop a boundary. Kiran Carlson had to step up and take over spin-bowling duties as Yorkshire piled on runs with ease.

Bean appeared poised for his fourth century of the season, displaying elegant strokeplay and hitting eleven exquisite boundaries. However, Carlson managed to induce an edge from Bean’s drive that was caught at slip. James Wharton couldn’t maintain momentum either, falling leg before wicket for three while pushing forward to McIlroy.

Masood showcased his class by reaching a graceful hundred off just 132 deliveries, including eleven fours. He formed a substantial partnership worth 90 runs alongside George Hill, with only occasional lapses in running threatening their progress.

Hill also contributed with some powerful shots, helping Masood lay down a solid foundation for Yorkshire to secure maximum batting bonus points and establish control over the game.
