Christophe Galtier, Manager of Paris St-Germain, to be tried for alleged racist comments

Paris St-Germain Manager to Stand Trial for Alleged Discrimination

The manager of Paris St-Germain, Christophe Galtier, will be facing trial in December after being investigated regarding allegations of discrimination. The trial comes as a result of accusations made against him during his time as the manager of Nice.

In April, Galtier was accused of making racist remarks which he firmly denied. Following an investigation initiated in April, the 56-year-old was arrested and taken into custody on Friday for further questioning.

Galtier is set to face trial on December 15 at the Nice Criminal Court where he has been charged with “moral harassment and discrimination based on actual or supposed membership or non-membership of a particular ethnic group, nation, alleged race or religion,” according to Xavier Bonhomme, the public prosecutor from Nice.

An email leaked in April allegedly revealed Galtier’s comment about there being too many black and Muslim players within the squad at Nice. In response to these claims back then, Galtier expressed deep shock and initiated defamation proceedings against two journalists and former Nice sporting director Julien Fournier.

The prosecutor informed that Galtier’s agent son John Valovic-Galtier was also questioned during the investigation but both denied any wrongdoing.

Galtier led PSG to win last season’s Ligue 1 title; however they were knocked out by Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of sixteen. It is widely speculated that he will depart from the Qatari-owned club this summer, as PSG appears to be on the verge of appointing former Spain and Barcelona manager Luis Enrique as their new boss.

Having taken over from Mauricio Pochettino last summer, Galtier left his position at Nice to join PSG. His future with the club remains uncertain amidst these ongoing legal proceedings.
