    Essex Rebels Appoint Ashley Cookson As Head Coach

    The Women’s British Basketball League (WBBL) team, Essex Rebels have announced the appointment of a new head coach. The club has named Ashley Cookson as their new head coach and also appointed him as Head of Performance Basketball at the University of Essex.

    Cookson comes with a wealth of experience which includes three years coaching and scouting with GB Basketball. He most recently worked in Canada before joining the WBBL side in his current role.

    The last person to lead the Essex Rebels was Tom Sadler who left the club in January this year to move overseas.

    Unique Qualities Of The Appointment According To Cookson

      According to Ashley, he said:
    • “The talent, infrastructure, and support here are unique in the WBBL and…
    • The University is really leading the way in developing sports.”

    Ashley believes that he is taking up a great opportunity by working with Essex rebels. Speaking about his new appointment, he had this to say:

    “This is my opportunity to show what I can do, and I can’t wait to get started,”

    About The Club – ‘Essex Rebel’

    Last season saw significant progress for women’s basketball league side Essex Rebel when they finished sixth on the table standings despite ending up on a low note after losing seven out of its final eight games. Nonetheless, March saw the club attract more than 1,500 spectators in a game against Leicester Riders.
