Excitement builds for leg spinner White ahead of crucial T20 series between Ireland and India at Malahide

Ireland Spinner Ben White Ready to Take on World Number One India

In a clash of titans, Ireland spinner Ben White is eagerly awaiting the three-match T20 series against world number one side India at Malahide. Despite being labeled as underdogs, White firmly believes that his team has the potential to cause an upset.

With confidence in their abilities, the spirited 24-year-old states, “We possess the ability to defeat any opponent when we are at our best. You can never predict what might happen in cricket and it’s essential to maintain belief.”

Playing against India on home turf holds immense significance for White and his team. Recognizing India as the top-ranked side worldwide, he acknowledges the challenge ahead while embracing it with open arms.

The last encounter between these two teams took place at Malahide last year where India emerged victorious with a scoreline of 2-0. However, Ireland managed to give them a scare in the second T20 match, falling short by just four runs.

Having recently secured their spot in next year’s T20 World Cup through a qualifying tournament held last month, Ireland heads into this series with newfound confidence and determination.

If selected for Friday’s opener at Co Dublin venue – Malahide – it will mark White’s first international appearance against India. A former seam bowler in his youth days, he stumbled upon leg-breaks during practice sessions, capturing the attention of his coaches who nurtured his talent.

White made his T20 debut for Ireland in 2021 and has been a valuable asset to the team, claiming 21 wickets at an impressive average of 22.85.

On the other side, India aims to bounce back after suffering a series defeat against West Indies. Captain Jasprit Bumrah returns to international action after nearly a year-long absence due to injury, while seamer Prasidh Krishna also makes a comeback into the squad.

Eager to test his skills against India’s proficient batting line-up known for their expertise in handling spin bowling, White sets his sights on taking down talented batsman Sanju Samson. “He has been exceptional over the years and they boast several exciting talents within their ranks. In all honesty though, any wicket would make me happy,” expresses White with enthusiasm.

Aware of India’s strength against spin bowlers but unfazed by it, he clarifies that he will not adopt a defensive approach but rather focus on attacking and taking wickets aggressively.

The anticipation among both teams is palpable as they gear up for this thrilling encounter. The atmosphere created by passionate fans at Malahide adds another layer of excitement to what promises to be an enthralling spectacle.
