Ferrari includes Bearman in their F1 backup lineup for 2024

Ferrari’s Expanded Options for F1 Reserve Role in the 2024 Season

This year, Ferrari is embracing a challenging 24-race schedule in Formula One. To ensure they have enough backup options available, the Italian marque has enlisted two talented drivers who are also involved in their World Endurance Championship Hypercar program: Antonio Giovinazzi and Robert Shwartzman. Due to their commitments, these drivers may not always be on standby during races.

Another addition to Ferrari’s reserve roster is Ollie Bearman. The young driver will be competing in his second season of FIA Formula 2 with Prema Racing this year. Despite his racing program overlapping with some F1 weekends, Bearman will be present at those events and ready to step in when required by Ferrari. Additionally, he will also make himself available to travel with the team for non-clashing events.

Last year, at just eighteen years old, Bearman impressed Ferrari during testing sessions at Fiorano and then showcased his skills behind the wheel of a Haas car during free practice sessions in Mexico and Abu Dhabi. He also participated in the young driver test at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix circuit. As a result of his performance, he earned a spot as one of Ferrari’s reserve drivers for this season.

Arthur Leclerc: A Development Driver Despite Leaving FDA Program

In an intriguing move by Ferrari, Arthur Leclerc has been appointed as a development driver despite recently leaving the prestigious Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) program. As Charles Leclerc’s younger brother, Arthur will get his first taste of F1 power when he takes the wheel of the 2022 F1-75 model in Barcelona next week. Alongside Leclerc, Ferrari veterans Davide Rigon and Antonio Fuoco will also serve as development drivers.

This role involves primarily working on simulator sessions, car development tasks, setup work, and implementing updates throughout the season. Despite no longer being a part of the FDA program, Ferrari recognizes Leclerc’s potential and has given him this opportunity to further refine his skills.

    Ferrari’s Track Program for 2024

Ferrari is gearing up for an exciting track program in preparation for the 2024 season. The team will conduct a three-day Pirelli tire test in Barcelona from January 29th to January 31st. On the first two days of testing, race drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. will take turns behind the wheel of last year’s SF-23 car.

To add an element of surprise to their track program, Ferrari will concurrently run their upcoming 2022 SF-75 model alongside their current car during these tests. On day one, Arthur Leclerc will have his chance to experience driving this new beast while his brother Charles and Sainz combine it with their SF-23 running on day two.Bearman is scheduled to showcase his skills alone on track with the SF-75 model on the final day of testing.
