Liverpool’s Left-Back Andrew Robertson Undergoes Surgery for Shoulder Injury

Liverpool Defender Andy Robertson Undergoes Shoulder Surgery

In a surprising turn of events, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has announced that defender Andy Robertson recently underwent shoulder surgery. The injury occurred while representing Scotland during the Euro 2024 qualifying defeat against Spain.

During the match, Robertson found himself in a collision with Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon, leaving the field cradling his arm in pain. However, Klopp provided some positive news regarding the operation: “He’s had his surgery and it all went well, as good as it could be.”

The exact duration of Robertson’s recovery remains uncertain at this stage. Nevertheless, Klopp expressed relief that the first step towards rehabilitation has been completed.

Robertson’s absence from Liverpool’s recent Merseyside derby victory against Everton was noticeable. Greece left-back Kostas Tsimikas stepped up to fill his shoes for this crucial fixture. Tsimikas has also made appearances in Europa League wins over LASK Linz and Union Saint-Gilloise, as well as EFL Cup triumphs against Leicester City.

Klopp hinted at potential alternative options for covering Robertson’s position if needed. He mentioned that Joe Gomez or 19-year-old Luke Chambers could potentially switch roles to play at left-back.

    Awaiting European Challenge

Looking ahead, Liverpool will face French side Toulouse at Anfield in their upcoming Europa League clash on Thursday. This encounter will surely test their defensive capabilities without their influential left-back.
