Man City set to secure the services of Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes in verbal agreement

Manchester City Close to Signing Matheus Nunes in £47.3m Deal

In the latest transfer news, Manchester City is on the brink of securing a deal for midfielder Matheus Nunes from Wolves for a whopping £47.3 million.

The agreement between the two clubs has been reached verbally, although formal paperwork is yet to be finalized. If completed successfully, no additional add-ons will be included in the transaction.

This potential signing comes after City’s first bid for Nunes was rejected by Wolves last week when they demanded over £60 million for his services.

Nunes himself has made it known that he desires a move to Pep Guardiola’s side and even skipped training recently as an indication of his intentions.

In an interesting twist, Wolves have agreed to take on loan City’s England Under-21 international Tommy Doyle with an option to sign him permanently for £4.3 million at a later date. In this prospective deal, there would also be a sizable sell-on clause benefitting City should Doyle eventually leave Wolves.

It should be noted that these two transactions are separate endeavors pursued by both clubs after Man City refused to meet Wolves’ original valuation of over £60 million for Nunes alone.

The desire to strengthen their midfield options was already present within Man City prior to Kevin de Bruyne’s recent hamstring injury that could sideline him for up to four months.

Prior considerations were given towards West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta, a 25-year-old Brazilian talent. However, it was later revealed that Paqueta is currently under investigation by the Football Association for potential betting rule violations.

Wolves’ manager Gary O’Neil had expressed his belief that Nunes would remain at the club beyond the upcoming transfer deadline during Tuesday’s Carabao Cup victory over Blackpool.

Nunes joined Wolves on a five-year contract last summer after Sporting Lisbon received a record-breaking £38 million fee from the Midlands club. He played a pivotal role in helping Wolves avoid relegation and secure a 13th-place finish in their previous campaign.
