New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi joins Somerset on temporary deal

Somerset Signs Ish Sodhi to Bolster Squad in Vitality T20 Blast

Somerset has announced the signing of New Zealand’s star cricketer, Ish Sodhi. The 30-year-old leg-spinner will be available for the remaining matches of Somerset in the Vitality T20 Blast. He could also feature in their County Championship game with Hampshire beginning on July 10.

The signing comes at a crucial stage of the Vitality T20 Blast campaign as Somerset aims to finish top of South Group and secure their place in the quarter-finals. Currently, they lead South Group following ten wins from twelve games.

    Who is Ish Sodhi?

Ish Sodhi has played over 160 times for New Zealand across all three formats and previously had spells at Nottinghamshire, Worcestershire. He was recently seen playing with Welsh Fire in The Hundred competition.

Ish provides us with both international qualities and a vast amount of domestic T20 experience,” said Andy Hurry, Director of Cricket at Somerset CCC. “He is renowned for his control and ability to bamboozle opposition batters.”

Peter Siddle, Roelof van der Merwe, and Lewis Gregory are currently unavailable due to injury which made it imperative that we acted quickly by identifying a player who can add value to our squad at such a critical time.”

Somerset’s Chances In The Vitality T20 Blast:

The addition of an experienced player like Ish would give them an edge over other teams in the tournament. Somerset is already doing well with ten wins from twelve games and has secured their place in the quarter-finals of Vitality T20 Blast.

The signing of Ish Sodhi would be a boost to their bowling lineup, which also features Josh Davey, Craig Overton, Max Waller, and Jack Leach. With such an excellent squad at their disposal, Somerset will hope to go all the way this season.

    Final Thoughts

Ish Sodhi’s signing is good news for Somerset fans as they look forward to watching him play in Vitality T20 Blast matches. It remains to be seen how he performs during his stint with Somerset but one thing is certain that his experience could help them win their first-ever title this year.
