NRG’s ambitious CS2 endeavor stumbles at initial obstacle with Major RMR absence

NRG Falls Short in Their Return to Counter-Strike

In a rather puzzling turn of events, NRG found themselves unable to secure qualification for the prestigious PGL Copenhagen Major RMR. After their comeback to the Counter-Strike scene in November 2023, hopes were high for the North American squad.

A Promising Start Followed by Setbacks

Their journey commenced with a strong victory over Badass, narrowly defeating them 16-14. However, as if caught in an unpredictable whirlwind, NRG later stumbled against formidable opponents Complexity and Nouns – both teams that would eventually secure their spots at the RMR.

Despite picking up the pieces and bouncing back with a win against LOS, NRG ultimately faced defeat at the hands of Rocket in a decisive series which spelled doom for their aspirations of participating in CS2’s inaugural Major event.

Favorites Left Behind as Other Teams Prevail

Prior to this disappointing outcome, NRG was widely regarded as one of the favorites expected to advance through the North American closed qualifier. Nevertheless, it was Team Liquid, M80, Nouns, and Complexity who emerged triumphant and secured their tickets to compete offline.

    New Opportunities Await

The upcoming American RMR is scheduled from March 1st till 4th in Monterrey,Mexico. While we already know about its participants from North America, the South American teams are yet to be determined as they will go head-to-head during the closed qualifiers starting January 19th.

NRG now has ample time ahead of ESL Challenger League Season 47 North America to regroup, address their shortcomings and make significant improvements. This highly-anticipated event kicks off on February 6th, with its final matches not concluding until June. The winners and runners-up will secure coveted spots in the prestigious ESL Pro League’s 20th season.

A Global CS2 Scene Taking Shape

This week marks a pivotal moment for Counter-Strike as closed qualifiers are taking place across various regions worldwide. As Europe’s last open qualifier gets underway on January 18th, closed qualifiers will follow suit shortly after, shaping the future of competitive CS2.
