Pep Guardiola: Manchester City manager desires players to be “frustrated” over limited playing opportunities

Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola Emphasizes Importance of Player Anger

In a surprising turn of events, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he welcomes the anger and frustration shown by his players when they are left out of the starting line-up.

The latest player to demonstrate this fiery determination is young winger Jeremy Doku. Despite being benched for last week’s match against Manchester United in favor of Jack Grealish, Doku came back with a vengeance during Saturday’s game against Bournemouth. He not only scored a goal but also provided four assists in the team’s impressive 6-1 victory.

Guardiola believes that channeling this anger can lead to improved performances from his squad: “I want Jack [Grealish] angry and I want him to play good,” he stated. “And then Doku – be angry that he hasn’t played the last two games. This is the way to maintain consistency at that level.”

Doku, who was signed for £55.4m from Rennes over the summer, has settled quickly into life at City and has already contributed three goals across all competitions. However, he faces tough competition from England international Grealish for a regular starting role in City’s attack.

Guardiola highlighted Grealish’s impact during their recent win against Manchester United: “The way he [Grealish] played at Old Trafford, to give us more composure and power in that position, it was decisive for us.”

With City now sitting at the top of the Premier League table after their weekend victory, Guardiola emphasized the importance of every player’s contribution: “We need everyone. There are a lot of games and everyone has to compete. Then we will win games and you will be happy and everyone will be happy. This is what we have to do.”

Next up for Manchester City is a Champions League clash against Swiss champions Young Boys on Tuesday night.
