Robert Page: Wales manager focuses on present, disregards rumors about his future

Manager Robert Page Focused on Wales’ Euro 2024 Qualification

Noise and Speculation Won’t Distract Manager Robert Page

In the midst of a disappointing qualifying campaign for Euro 2024, Wales manager Robert Page remains undeterred by speculation surrounding his future. Despite sitting fourth in Group D, the Football Association of Wales (FAW) reportedly has potential successors in mind.

However, speaking with emotion and determination during a press conference ahead of their crucial qualifier against Croatia, Page made it clear that he was solely focused on the upcoming match:

“We’ve got to ignore all the noise,” he said confidently. “It is just noise that we try to shield our players from as much as possible. Our complete focus will be on tomorrow night’s game.”

Page also addressed rumors about discussions with FAW chief executive Noel Mooney regarding his position:

“I have not spoken to him at all about it so I could not tell you whether it is true or not,” expressed Page. “All I have to concentrate on is fulfilling my four-year deal before the World Cup and implementing a long-term plan which involves nurturing young talent into the national team.”

A Time of Transition for Welsh Football

Recognizing the challenges ahead, Page acknowledged the transition period Welsh football is currently undergoing:

“We are losing big players like Joe Allen and Gareth Bale, not just for their performance on the pitch but also for their value in the changing room,” he explained. “However, we have seen promising young talents emerging and we’re committed to developing them over time.”

    A United Front

During this press conference, Page’s assistant coaches Alan Knill, Tony Roberts, and Ian Mitchell stood united at the back of the room as a show of support.

“That’s never been in doubt for me,” asserted Page. “I wish our supporters and you guys [media] could witness what we have within that changing room. It’s truly remarkable. We share a close bond both among ourselves as staff members and with our players.”

The Road to Euro 2024 Qualification

In order to secure automatic qualification for Euro 2024, Wales must win all three of their remaining qualifiers starting with Sunday’s crucial home match against Croatia. Currently placed fourth in Group D with only three games left, Wales trails second-placed Croatia by three points.

If they fail to secure a top-two finish in their group, Wales will still have an opportunity through the play-offs in March.

No Room for Distractions: Ben Davies’ Stance

Bolstering team spirit further amid distractions surrounding Page’s future was interim captain Ben Davies:

“It’s disappointing to hear any noise coming from within our organization,” stated Davies candidly. “We hope everyone is aligned towards one common goal.”

Davies emphasized that their main focus remains on defeating Croatia on Sunday:

“We have brushed aside the outside noise and are fully focused on tomorrow’s game against Croatia,” Davies affirmed.
