Ruoning Yin from China emerges victorious in Women’s PGA Championship, securing her maiden major title

Chinese Golfer Ruoning Yin Makes History at Women’s PGA Championship

In a stunning turn of events, Chinese golfer Ruoning Yin has made history by becoming the second Chinese player to win a major championship. It was just ten years ago when Shanshan Feng clinched the title, making her the first ever Chinese major champion.

At only 20 years old, Yin showcased incredible skill and composure during the final round of this year’s Women’s PGA Championship held in New Jersey. She finished with an impressive four-under par score of 67 for the day and eight-under overall, securing victory by one stroke over Japan’s Yuka Saso.

Feng retired from professional golf last year after a successful career that included winning a major championship and reaching the number one ranking in the world. For Yin, Feng serves as both inspiration and a benchmark to strive towards.

“She’s definitely the goal that I’m chasing,” said Yin when asked about Feng’s influence on her own career. “She is the person who inspired me the most.”

Yin initially began playing golf at a young age but had also been drawn to basketball due to her admiration for players like Steph Curry. However, she ultimately decided to pursue golf wholeheartedly and embarked on an impressive amateur journey before turning professional in 2020.

Her transition into professional golf was marked with immediate success as she claimed three consecutive wins on China LPGA Tour – setting new records along the way. However, her rookie season on the LPGA Tour proved to be challenging, with Yin experiencing mixed results and struggling to consistently make the cut.

Despite the initial setbacks, Yin’s game matured over time and she was able to secure her first LPGA Tour victory at the LA Open in April. Reflecting on her progress, Yin noted that improving her English language skills and playing smarter golf has been key factors in her recent success.

“My coach always said, ‘You’re such a good ball striker. You just need to play smart and focus on your line, on your target, and you’re going to be fine.’ I think we’re doing good right now,” explained Yin.

Yin’s performance at Baltusrol Golf Club this year showcased both maturity and exceptional ball-striking ability. Despite facing an inclement weather delay during the final round, she remained consistent throughout the tournament – hitting fairways accurately and maintaining a perfect greens-in-regulation record.

In a thrilling finish on the 18th hole of Baltusrol Golf Club, Yin secured victory by holding onto her one-shot lead until the end. With this historic win under her belt, Ruoning Yin has firmly established herself as one of China’s rising stars in women’s golf.
