Saqib Mahmood: Lancashire and England paceman experiences reoccurrence of back problem

Lancashire and England Fast Bowler Saqib Mahmood Sidelined by Recurring Stress Fracture in Back

In a disappointing turn of events, Saqib Mahmood, the talented fast bowler from Lancashire and England, has once again fallen victim to a troublesome stress fracture in his back. This setback comes after an arduous recovery period during most of 2022.

Mahmood had recently returned to action for England in a one-day international match against Bangladesh in March but is now deemed unfit for both Lancashire and the Hundred campaign with Oval Invincibles.

The entire Lancashire Cricket community wishes Saqib a smooth journey towards full recuperation,” expressed the club through an official statement. “After consulting specialists, it has been determined that Mahmood will undergo rehabilitation under the watchful guidance of medical teams from both Lancashire and ECB.”

The Birmingham-born seamer initially sustained this injury during a County Championship match back in April 2022 – merely two months following his Test debut. Despite diligently working on his comeback throughout late last year, Mahmood only managed appearances in two limited-over games for England Lions held in Sri Lanka this February.

A glimmer of hope emerged when he faced Bangladesh at Mirpur just last month. Additionally, he participated in two County Championship matches for Lancashire early this season alongside three T20 Blast fixtures – their most recent encounter being a defeat against Birmingham Bears on May 29.
