Sean Dyche: Everton boss laments failure to secure desired signings

Everton’s Manager Sean Dyche Determined to Strengthen Squad

In a relentless pursuit of strengthening their squad, Everton Football Club has encountered several setbacks in the transfer market this summer, according to manager Sean Dyche.

The Toffees have yet to secure any permanent acquisitions but have managed to bring in full-back Ashley Young on a free transfer and winger Arnaut Danjuma on loan.

Unbeaten during pre-season, Everton has struggled to find the back of the net, scoring just four goals across four matches against lower league opponents. Dyche admits that this lack of goal-scoring prowess is always concerning.

Last season proved challenging for Everton as they narrowly escaped relegation with a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on the final day. Throughout the campaign, they only managed to score 34 goals in 38 league games.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin endured injury issues and scored a mere two goals throughout the entire season. Meanwhile, Neal Maupay struggled himself, finding the net only once in his last 40 appearances across league and cup competitions.

The pressing need for a new striker is evident; however, one of their long-term targets El Bilal Toure opted for Serie A side Atalanta instead of joining Everton from Almeria.

Rumors suggest there might be some interest in Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho as a potential solution upfront for Everton; however, no official approach has been made so far.

Everton’s pre-season matches have seen them secure victories against Swiss second division side Stade Nyonnais (2-1) and League One team Wigan (1-0), along with a goalless draw against Bolton.

In their most recent game, Everton had to rely on an injury-time goal from Amadou Onana to secure a 1-0 victory over Championship side Stoke. Ironically, the traveling supporters chanted “We’re gonna win the league” in response.

The financial situation at Everton has raised concerns, leading to an upcoming independent commission hearing in October regarding alleged breaches of the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play rules.

Dyche acknowledges that operating on a tight budget makes it challenging for Everton to navigate the transfer market effectively. He assures everyone that they are working hard behind the scenes to construct deals that can benefit the club.

“Scoring goals is always crucial for winning games,” Dyche stated. “During the latter half of last season, we realized we needed different approaches to find the back of the net. That will continue as we move forward because football constantly evolves.”

Everton concludes their pre-season preparations by hosting Sporting Lisbon at Goodison Park on August 5th before kicking off their Premier League campaign against Fulham one week later.
