TaZ, the renowned Polish Counter-Strike icon, steps into the position of G2 coach with a challenging task ahead

G2 Esports Announces New Coaching Addition

European powerhouse G2 Esports has recently made a major decision regarding its Counter-Strike 2 coaching role. The team has bid farewell to Jan “Swani” Müller and welcomed the renowned Polish player, Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas, as their new coach. TaZ, who concluded his remarkable 20-year career earlier this year, will officially join G2 in 2024 after wrapping up his competitive playing days.

TaZ’s transition to the coaching position marks an exciting chapter for both him and G2 Esports. At 37 years old, he brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise that is expected to greatly benefit the squad. Notably, TaZ boasts an impressive track record which includes winning a Major Championship during his twelve appearances at the prestigious tournament.

The move also highlights the continued relevance of former Virtus Pro players in the esports scene even after their retirement from active competition. NEO’s appointment as FaZe Clan’s coach earlier this year set a precedent for TaZ’s new role in G2 Esports. Additionally, Snax continues to compete in CS2 with GamerLegion underlining their lasting impact on the sport.

A Challenging Task Ahead for TaZ

TaZ faces significant challenges as he takes over from Swani who guided G2 Esports to great success throughout 2023. Under Swani’s leadership, G2 secured four S-Tier titles including victories at IEM Katowice and Cologne – events considered among the most prestigious in professional Counter-Strike.

However, recent changes within the team following Nemanja “nexa” Isaković’s addition and the benching of Justin “jks” Savage from Australia have created a period of turbulence for G2 Esports. The squad has struggled to adapt, suffering heavy defeats against lower-ranked teams such as Aurora Gaming and Guild Eagles at the CCT Online Finals Five.

TaZ’s official role as coach will commence in 2024, but he is already lending his expertise to oversee G2 Esports’ final event of 2023 in Abu Dhabi. The BLAST Premier World Finals, set to begin on December 13th, will provide an opportunity for TaZ to start making his mark on the team’s performance.
