The Endless Workload of Pirelli in Formula 1

Pirelli’s Busy Year: Navigating Challenges in Formula 1

The world of Formula 1 is always filled with surprises, and Pirelli, the official tire supplier of the sport, had quite a busy year in navigating through various challenges. The season witnessed an array of incidents that required quick thinking and innovative solutions from Pirelli’s engineers.

    Unpredictable Situations

One unforeseen challenge was the unexpected increase in performance at the start of the season. However, Pirelli quickly responded by homologating a new construction that ensured balance, performance, and behavior were not compromised. Instead of simply raising the pressure as a remedy, this approach proved to be effective.

In Qatar, another obstacle presented itself when signs of damage inflicted by kerbs were observed on some tires. Through open communication with all stakeholders involved, including teams and organizers, Pirelli managed to find a suitable solution to address this issue.

    Adapting Mid-Season Construction Changes

Making changes to tire constructions mid-season is no easy task as it carries potential implications for team performances. Nevertheless, due to increasing downforce levels mandated by regulations for the second year running – something unforeseen from previous tests – it became necessary for Pirelli to introduce a new construction during the British Grand Prix.
