Uefa imposes ban on Legia Warsaw, prohibiting sale of tickets to supporters for upcoming five away matches

Legia Warsaw Banned from Selling Tickets for European Away Games

The aftermath of Legia Warsaw’s Europa Conference League defeat at Aston Villa has resulted in severe repercussions for the Polish club. In response to the violence that marred the match, Legia Warsaw have been banned by UEFA from selling tickets to their fans for five upcoming European away games.

This punishment comes as a result of crowd disturbances, acts of damage, throwing of objects, and lighting of fireworks during the game on November 30th. As a consequence, Legia Warsaw has also been fined €100,000 (£86,100) by UEFA.

In addition to these penalties enforced by UEFA upon Legia Warsaw, they are required to contact Aston Villa FC within the next month in order to settle damages caused by their supporters’ behavior. This includes compensation for broken high fences and a damaged lighting pole.

The clash between both teams was not only limited to what happened on the pitch but extended beyond it as well. Prior to kick-off near Villa Park Stadium in Birmingham, four police officers sustained injuries due to clashes with away fans. These officers were faced with absolutely appalling scenes including flares being thrown at them.

Safety concerns prompted officials to prevent visiting fans from entering the stadium premises which led some supporters wanting desperately to force their way through barriers out of frustration. The disorder seemed triggered by tensions surrounding limitations imposed on the number of away fans allowed into Villa Park for this match.

West Midlands Police stated that the allocation for visiting supporters had been drastically reduced to just 1,000 tickets under recommendations from local emergency services. Moreover, it was noted that Legia Warsaw fans had been involved in previous matchday disorder as well.
