Victor Osimhen: Footballer expresses unwavering affection for Napoli and appeals for solidarity within supporter community

Napoli Striker Victor Osimhen Expresses Unwavering Love for Club

Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has sent a powerful message to the club and its fans, urging unity amidst recent controversy. Despite facing criticism over a TikTok video that seemingly mocked his penalty miss last week, Osimhen remains steadfast in his love for Napoli.

The Italian Serie A club received backlash after sharing the video but later clarified that they had no intention of causing offense to the Nigerian forward. The short clip featured a caricature voice saying “gimme penalty please,” which caused an uproar among supporters.

However, following Napoli’s impressive 4-0 victory against Lecce over the weekend, Osimhen took to Instagram to express his unwavering affection for both the city and the football club. He stated that coming to Naples in 2020 was one of the best decisions he ever made.

“The people of Naples have shown me immense love and kindness since my arrival,” said Osimhen passionately. “I will not allow anyone or anything to come between us.”

Osimhen also emphasized how much he values his relationships with Neapolitans and considers them a part of his extended family. He expressed gratitude towards Nigerians and others who have shown support during this challenging time.

“Let’s continue to spread unity, respect, and understanding,” Osimhen urged. “Forza Napoli Sempre!”

Despite the video controversy, it is clear that Osimhen’s commitment to Napoli remains resolute. His agent threatened legal action against the club for their social media post, which has since been deleted. However, manager Rudi Garcia stated earlier in the week that he is fully invested in the Serie A club despite the incident.

The Nigerian Sports Minister John Owan Enoh also shared his concerns about protecting athletes’ welfare and mentioned diplomatic efforts being pursued with Italy regarding the incident.

Osimhen joined Napoli in 2020 for a record-breaking fee of €81.3 million (£70 million) and played a vital role in helping them secure their first Serie A title in 33 years last season with an impressive goal tally of 26 from 32 league appearances.
