Vishwa Fernando joins Durham for County Championship finale: Sri Lanka seamer bolsters squad

Durham Signs Sri Lanka International Seamer Vishwa Fernando

In a surprising move, Durham has secured the services of Sri Lankan international seamer, Vishwa Fernando, to strengthen their bowling attack for the remaining two County Championship matches of the season. The 31-year-old with an impressive record of 20 Tests under his belt will provide an added boost as Durham faces Worcestershire and Leicestershire.

Currently on the verge of both promotion and claiming the Division Two title, Durham requires just five points from these crucial encounters to achieve their goals. However, they will have to manage without fast bowlers Brydon Carse and Matthew Potts who are away representing England.

Fernando’s arrival got delayed due to visa issues which prevented him from featuring in Durham’s previous match against Sussex. Nevertheless, director of cricket Marcus North is excited about having him join the squad: “We felt compelled to bring in an overseas pacer as we strive towards finishing strongly this season. He brings a wealth of experience from Test and first-class cricket, making us eager to witness his impact at Durham throughout September.”

With 50 Test wickets at an average of 37 and a commendable tally of 267 first-class victims averaging just 30, Fernando’s inclusion adds depth and skill to Durham’s already formidable lineup.
