Yorkshire Dominate Glamorgan in County Championship with Strong Performances from Masood and Revis

Shan Masood’s Masterclass Puts Yorkshire in Control

In a thrilling display of skill and determination, batsman Shan Masood single-handedly dominated the second day of the match between Yorkshire and Glamorgan. His spectacular knock of 192 runs left Glamorgan reeling as they struggled to find an answer to his batting prowess.

The innings began with Yorkshire being bowled out for a commendable total of 500 runs in their first attempt. Finlay Bean contributed an impressive score of 93, while George Hill added a solid knock of 71, boosting Yorkshire’s overall tally.

Glamorgan faced an uphill battle when they came out to bat, collapsing at a disappointing score of 150-6. Only Kiran Carlson offered any resistance with an unbeaten innings of 53 runs.

At the close of play on day two, Glamorgan found themselves needing another 201 runs to avoid being forced into a follow-on.

A delayed start due to unforeseen circumstances led to Glamorgan making history by enlisting their first official concussion replacement player. Dan Douthwaite stepped in for Ben Kellaway after Kellaway sustained a head injury while fielding on day one. However, due to Douthwaite’s bowling style not being deemed similar enough to Kellaway’s spin technique, he was unable to contribute with the ball.

The morning session saw George Hill adding another valuable twenty runs before falling victim to James Harris’ trapping LBW delivery at 71 runs. Jonathan Tattersall followed suit, falling prey to an Andy Gorvin delivery that found the hands of Chris Cooke behind the stumps after scoring just six.

Matthew Revis also endured a moment of misfortune as he attempted a reverse-sweep shot and inadvertently dragged the ball onto his own stumps, departing for 28 runs.

Meanwhile, Shan Masood showcased remarkable composure throughout his six-hour innings, rarely encountering any alarming situations. His exquisite stroke play included 17 boundaries and diligent running between wickets. It appeared he was destined for a double century until James Harris caught him at cover on 192 runs.

The very next ball saw Jordan Thompson making his way back to the pavilion as Yorkshire’s dominance continued. Ben Coad and debutant Ben Cliff fell quickly without contributing many runs, leaving Dom Bess unbeaten on 28 while securing maximum batting points for Yorkshire.

Glamorgan’s bowlers faced immense pressure after spending a long day in the field. Both Carlson and Harris claimed three wickets each but incurred high scores in terms of runs conceded.

In response to Yorkshire’s total, Glamorgan began their innings with Zain ul Hassan being dismissed by Ben Coad after only scoring eight runs. Shortly thereafter, Colin Ingram suffered a similar fate when his off stump was sent flying by Jordan Thompson at just five runs.

With Yorkshire firmly in control, youngster Ben Cliff made an impactful entry into County Championship cricket with a maiden over which tested Byrom’s outside edge. Sam Northeast managed to score sixteen before falling victim to Dominic Bess’ spin bowling when attempting a cut shot. The introduction of Matthew Revis turned the tide further as Glamorgan were pushed towards potentially following-on. Byrom became Revis’ first victim after crafting an impressive forty-run knock before errantly flashing at an out-of-reach ball outside the off stump. Billy Root was unfortunate as a sharp, short delivery deflected off his arm and into the hands of wicketkeeper Jonathan Tattersall. Revis secured his third wicket by dismissing Chris Cooke LBW when Glamorgan’s score reached 100-6.

With only Douthwaite (17 not out) and skipper Carlson (53 not out) standing strong, Glamorgan fought to survive until the close of play. The day concluded with Glamorgan on 150-6, still needing another 201 runs to avoid following-on against Yorkshire’s dominant total.
