FIA Brings Road Safety Focus to Sao Paulo
The 6 Hours of Sao Paulo will host an FIA initiative that extends the conversation on safety beyond the race track, spotlighting companies certified under the FIA Road Safety Index. This international programme evaluates the maturity of road safety management across corporate and logistics operations, assessing criteria such as carrier management, driver safety requirements, training programmes, alcohol and drug control, journey monitoring, use of safety devices, and accident prevention processes.
Certification follows a two-stage process where companies first complete an evidence-based self-assessment before an independent FIA audit validates the information and assigns a rating based on the level of maturity identified. The index is already being used in multiple countries to help organisations improve their road safety management, creating a bridge between motorsport safety excellence and everyday mobility.
ArcelorMittal Sets Benchmark with Top Rating
Among the recognised organisations, ArcelorMittal achieved the highest three-star rating following an independent audit at its Santa Catarina facility in Brazil. The recognition carries added significance as the steel producer also manufactures the safety cage used in Stock Car race cars, a structure designed to enhance driver protection during accidents. Luanda Dantas Guerra, President of the Brazilian Automobile Association, noted that the certification demonstrates how motorsport innovation generates tangible benefits for society, with ArcelorMittal setting an important benchmark as the first Brazilian organisation certified.
For Marcia Spelta, ArcelorMittal’s General Manager of Health and Safety, the recognition reinforces a prevention culture present in both industrial operations and mobility initiatives, confirming that the company’s risk management approach aligns with the highest international standards and its ongoing commitment to protecting people.
