Bagnaia undergoes successful forearm surgery
Francesco Bagnaia underwent successful endoscopic fasciotomy surgery on his right forearm on Wednesday at the Orthopaedic Clinic of the Policlinico di Modena. The operation was performed by a medical team led by Professor Luigi Tarallo under the direction of Professor Fabio Catani and completed without complications according to a Ducati statement.
The two-time MotoGP champion attended an event in Rome on Tuesday where he was named a sporting ambassador by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs alongside other leading Italian motorcycle racers. Just a day later he entered surgery for what to be compartment syndrome, a common forearm issue among MotoGP riders caused by the intense physical demands of riding.
Recovery targets British Grand Prix return
Bagnaia will now use the championship’s three-week summer break to recover with the aim of returning for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone from August 7th to 9th. His participation will depend on the progress of his rehabilitation during the coming weeks.
The Ducati Lenovo Team rider begins his scheduled recovery and rehabilitation immediately following the successful procedure. Compartment syndrome affects many riders due to the extreme forces exerted on the forearms during braking and acceleration on modern MotoGP machinery.
