Celtic Midfielder Aaron Mooy Announces Retirement at 32

In a surprising turn of events, Celtic midfielder Aaron Mooy has shockingly announced his retirement from both club and international football at the age of 32. The Australian player, who holds an impressive record of 57 caps for his country, still had one more year remaining on his contract with the Scottish champions.

Speaking to Celtic’s official website, Mooy expressed mixed emotions about his decision: “While it feels really sad to be leaving the game, I just feel that the time is right.” The news came as a disappointment to new Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers; however, he emphasized their respect for Mooy’s choice.

Born in Sydney, Australia, Mooy began his professional journey in Bolton Wanderers’ youth ranks before making strides with St Mirren where he experienced first-team action. His career then took him through Western Sydney Wanderers, Melbourne City, Manchester City, Huddersfield Town, Brighton & Hove Albion and Shanghai Port before joining Celtic last summer under former Australia boss Ange Postecoglou.

During his time with Celtic last season, Mooy made significant contributions as they secured a domestic treble title, amassing an impressive tally of 41 appearances and scoring seven goals. This achievement added another highlight to what was already an outstanding career.

Reflecting on this chapter of his life ,Mooy shared: “I am delighted to finish my career on such a high with Celtic. I was beyond proud to be part of such a memorable season.” While retiring from club football, Mooy expressed his love for playing at the international level: “Playing for my country is something I have cherished, and it will undoubtedly leave a void in my life.”

Recognizing Mooy’s immense contributions, Rodgers affirmed that this decision was well-deserved. He added , “I am delighted for Aaron that he has chosen to go out on top after making an indelible mark on Celtic during his time here. His accomplishments will be something he can always take pride in.”
