Antoine Dupont Given Green Light to Make Comeback Following Cheekbone Injury
France Captain Antoine Dupont Cleared to Return to Action
In an unexpected turn of events, France’s captain, Antoine Dupont, has been given the green light to make his comeback after undergoing surgery for a fractured cheekbone.
Dupont sustained this injury during a remarkable 96-0 victory over Namibia at the Rugby World Cup on September 21st.
The next challenge awaiting France is a face-off with Italy on October 6th. If they manage to secure one of the top two spots in Pool A, they will advance to the quarter-finals scheduled for October 14th or 15th.
“Antoine has now been granted permission to gradually resume physical activities,” stated an official from the French federation. “Of course, all progress will be closely monitored by our national team’s medical staff.”
The incident leading up to Dupont’s exit from the match occurred in the 46th minute when Johan Deysel executed a forceful head-on-head tackle and was subsequently sent off. As punishment for his actions, Deysel received a five-match ban.
With three victories under their belt in pool matches so far, France can secure their spot in the quarter-finals by avoiding defeat against Italy in Lyon. An additional win would see them progress as winners of Pool A—certainly no easy feat since they are also hosting this year’s tournament.
William Servat, forwards coach for France, expressed utmost confidence that Dupont would achieve full recovery just in time for the quarter-final stage and even anticipated his return to training on Sunday. Servat’s faith in the 26-year-old Toulouse scrum-half is unwavering.
