Audi Confronted with Significant Engine Hurdle for 2026, According to Ferrari

The Intriguing Evolution of F1 Power Units

Audi and Ford/Red Bull Powertrains are delving into the realm of new power units for the upcoming 2026 season, while Cadillac plans to join as a manufacturer by 2028 with the potential Andretti team partnership.

Transitioning to the new regulations poses a complex challenge not just for established manufacturers with prior hybrid experience but especially for newcomers lacking historical knowledge. Enrico Gualtieri, Technical Director of Ferrari’s Power Unit, emphasized the formidable task ahead encompassing design, engineering skills, logistics, and infrastructure development required for these fresh projects.

Gualtieri highlighted that existing manufacturers must balance resources between current commitments until 2025 alongside preparing for the future shift. The stringent regulations dictate ongoing work on current PUs while gradually transitioning focus towards developing core components of new power units.

    Navigating Through Challenges

As dyno hours decrease annually for current engines, emphasis is shifting towards gearing up for the impending changes. Despite this dual commitment to present and future projects, Ferrari remains deeply focused on optimizing performance during what promises to be an arduous upcoming season.
