British Players, Andy Murray, Cameron Norrie, and Katie Boulter Spearhead UK Contingent at US Open 2023 in New York

Andy Murray Bounces Back from Wimbledon Exit, Focuses on US Open

After a disappointing exit at Wimbledon, Andy Murray wasted no time getting back to work and preparing for the upcoming US Open. The 36-year-old tennis star quickly put his chastening defeat behind him, turning his attention to the next challenge.

Murray admitted that immediately after matches, especially in major tournaments like Wimbledon, emotions run high. However, he took a short holiday to clear his mind and reflect on what needed improvement.

“I went away on holiday straight afterwards and after three or four days of being away from it, I chatted to my team about things that I feel I need to change,” said Murray. “I did that, went away and worked on some technical points. I’ve been working on them every day and it has been good.”

The three-time Grand Slam champion is determined to make a deep run in another major tournament as he enters the twilight of his career. Although not seeded going into the US Open due to recent injuries hindering his progress, Murray remains optimistic about his chances.

Murray’s ranking improved significantly recently, reaching 36th in the world – his highest since undergoing hip resurfacing surgery in 2019. This resurgence has fueled him with confidence as he continues fine-tuning his game.

Cameron Norrie Aims High Despite Lackluster North American Swing

Cameron Norrie heads into the US Open as Britain’s highest-ranked male player but without any wins during the North American hard court swing. Despite this setback, Norrie believes he is ready for the challenge ahead.

In reflecting on previous successes during this part of the season, Norrie mentioned managing expectations and finding balance in practice routines played crucial roles in achieving positive results.

“I think a little bit of expectation, trying to feel perfect on the practice court and being too tough on myself,” said Norrie. “I’m improving every day. I feel ready to attack the US Open.”

Dan Evans Seeks Breakthrough in Grand Slam

Dan Evans had a challenging year until recently when he won his first ATP 500 event in Washington, ending a run of seven consecutive Tour-level defeats. The 33-year-old hopes this victory will propel him further as he enters the US Open.

Although aware that winning a Grand Slam might be unlikely, Evans remains confident in his ability to have an impressive tournament showing. He expressed his appreciation for these prestigious events and acknowledged their unique appeal.

“First and foremost, I enjoy coming to these Grand Slams. They’re amazing tournaments. It’s why you play,” shared Evans.

Jack Draper Returns After Injury-Plagued Season

21-year-old Jack Draper is eager for a fresh start at the US Open after numerous physical setbacks interrupted his progress throughout the season.

A shoulder injury suffered during the French Open forced Draper to miss the entire British grass-court season, adding another hurdle to navigate in what has been a challenging year for him personally.
