Buick Secures Time Lock Ride on Champions Day

William Buick to Partner Time Lock in Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes

In an unexpected twist, jockey William Buick will be teaming up with Time Lock for the first time this season at the prestigious Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes held at Ascot. This collaboration comes after a narrow defeat for Time Lock in the Galtres Stakes at York last year.

Time Lock’s current campaign started off rocky with four consecutive losses before finally claiming victory in a Listed race in France just last month, boosting her confidence and setting her sights on Group One glory on Qipco British Champions Day.

The mare is trained by Harry Charlton, who partners with his father Roger. Charlton expressed his satisfaction with Time Lock’s form and confirmed that she will be competing at Ascot under Buick’s guidance. The decision was influenced by both the Juddmonte team’s approval and Buick’s previous successful rides on the filly.

Reflecting on their collaboration, Charlton stated, “William rode her twice last year…and he’s been saying all year if there was ever a chance he’d love to ride her again.”

This partnership has become possible due to Charlie Appleby not having a runner in the Ascot race and Ryan Moore choosing to ride one of Aidan O’Brien’s horses instead.

A Potential Fairy Tale Ending for Time Lock

After the recent victory in France and an improved performance on more favorable ground conditions at Newmarket, Charlton believes that Time Lock’s boosted confidence and adaptability to various tracks played a significant role in her resurgence. He noted, “The race she won in France was not a strong one, but she won it well and it might have just given her a little bit of confidence.”

Furthermore, Charlton emphasized how running on different types of ground affected Time Lock’s form throughout the season. Quick ground at Haydock followed by heavy conditions at Goodwood did not provide optimal circumstances for the mare. However, competing under moderate conditions similar to those experienced at Newmarket has proven beneficial.

Greek Order Eyes Redemption in James Seymour Stakes

In other news from the Charlton stable, three-year-old Greek Order narrowly missed out on victory in the Cambridgeshire handicap race at Newmarket. Despite being considered a favorite with short odds, his second-place finish behind Astro King showcased his potential for future success.

Charlton expressed pride in Greek Order’s performance and revealed plans to potentially enter him into the James Seymour Stakes next month. This listed race over ten furlongs aligns more closely with Greek Order’s preferred distance. Considering possible softer ground as well as Prince Khalid’s family approval, this could present an opportunity for redemption.
