    Cesarewitch Stakes: Opinions and Insights

Classy hurdler Pied Piper will bid to continue the Irish domination of the Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap at Newmarket on Saturday.

The five-year-old hurdler, formally owned by the late Queen during his successful Flat career under John and Thady Gosden, has now found fame over obstacles under Gordon Elliott’s training. With impressive performances at the last two Cheltenham Festivals, finishing second and third respectively, Pied Piper returns to flat racing after a long summer break.

On his comeback run at Killarney in late August, Pied Piper finished third and has since been targeted for this main autumn objective. Securing Ryan Moore as his jockey is a significant coup for connections ahead of this prestigious race.

“It’s very interesting and we’re really looking forward to it,” said Joey Logan, racing manager for owners Caldwell Construction. “He’s in great form and his prep up to this has been very good, so Gordon is very happy with him.”

Elliott’s charge carries a mark of 96 into the race which provides an advantageous position for him. Having had a rest from jumping last year, he returns as a bigger, stronger horse ready to take on the challenge.

“It’s going to be a messy race,” added Logan. “But hopefully Ryan will be in a nice position and will be happy. We’re very lucky and Gordon has done a great job; we’re really looking forward to having Ryan Moore riding him.”

Irish Hopes High with Recent Successes

In recent years, Irish trainers have dominated the Cesarewitch, winning four of the last five runnings. Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott have been at the forefront of this success.

William Buick has been booked to ride Lot Of Joy, who appears to be Mullins’ strongest contender from his Closutton yard. Meanwhile, Rachael Blackmore will partner Jackfinbar in a bid to claim victory for her stable.

Emmet Mullin’s Cheltenham Festival winner The Shunter adds another dimension as he seeks glory in one of flat racing’s most prestigious handicaps. Known for his versatility over hurdles and fences, The Shunter is expected to put up a strong fight under his talented trainer.

    Noel Meade Brings Irish Threat

Noel Meade may be more renowned for his jumpers but brings two solid contenders across the Irish Sea. Jesse Evans, runner-up in the Galway Hurdle and fourth in the Irish Cesarewitch, looks well-placed with an advantageous mark compared to previous races.

“He’s actually better off in this race than he was in the Irish Cesarewitch,” explained Meade. “He seems in good shape but had a hard race there so we will have to hope he has recovered from that.”

The trip poses some uncertainty for Jesse Evans; however, connections remain hopeful that he can handle it effectively after showing promise over shorter distances.

In addition to Jesse Evans, Meade also fields Sheishybrid who comes into the race on form after finishing second over track and trip during last month’s Cesarewitch Trial Handicap.

    Weather Conditions Play Their Part

The unpredictable weather will also play a crucial role in determining the outcome of this prestigious handicap. Trainers and jockeys will keep a close eye on any changes in conditions to assess their chances accurately.

With its rich history and exciting line-up, the Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap promises to be yet another enthralling contest filled with surprises. The Irish contingent aims to maintain their recent dominance, but they face strong opposition from talented contenders across Britain.
