Closer to the comeback of Constitution Hill

Fighting Fifth Hurdle: Constitution Hill Set for Seasonal Comeback

Constitution Hill, trained by the renowned Nicky Henderson, is gearing up for an exciting return to action in the upcoming Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle in December. With up to 12 potential rivals in the mix, this race promises to be a thrilling showdown of talent.

The six-year-old gelding has enjoyed an impeccable record under rules, remaining unbeaten throughout his career. He has established himself as the uncontested star of hurdling with seven consecutive victories, including six Grade One wins.

After triumphing at both Cheltenham and Aintree spring festivals earlier this year, where he secured back-to-back wins in the Champion Hurdle and Aintree Hurdle respectively over two and a half miles, Constitution Hill took a well-deserved summer break.

There were discussions about transitioning him to chasing; however, it was ultimately decided that he would continue his dominance within the hurdling division. Thus, he will embark on familiar territory by commencing his season with the Fighting Fifth – a race he conquered last year with an impressive 12-length victory margin.

“He’ll go straight to the Fighting Fifth on December 2nd; hopefully we’re all ready for that,” shared trainer Nicky Henderson during an interview with Racing TV.

You Wear It Well Poses Challenge

A notable contender among the twelve competitors is Jamie Snowden’s You Wear It Well. This mare showcased her prowess by effortlessly winning Wetherby’s Listed bet365 Mares’ Hurdle by three lengths during her seasonal debut. As a Cheltenham Festival winner, she is set to follow a path leading to valuable mares’ events throughout the season; however, the Fighting Fifth remains an open option for now.

“She did really well in her first outing, even carrying a penalty. It’s always satisfying to see them step up and perform exceptionally,” Snowden expressed regarding You Wear It Well’s impressive run at Wetherby.

With various mares’ races scheduled across Sandown, Warwick, and Cheltenham in March, Jamie Snowden is carefully mapping out the ideal campaign for this talented six-year-old mare. Although an entry has been submitted for the Fighting Fifth Hurdle, it remains uncertain whether they will take on the formidable Constitution Hill.

    A Competitive Field

The Fighting Fifth Hurdle boasts an array of other entrants ready to challenge Constitution Hill’s supremacy. Harry Fry’s Love Envoi and Kerry Lee’s duo of Black Poppy and Nemean Lion are among them.

Sandy Thomson has nominated Benson while Phil Kirby aims to showcase Jason The Militant’s abilities. Hughie Morrison could potentially saddle Not So Sleepy – a dual-purpose gelding who famously dead-heated with Epatante earlier this year.

Alan King’s experienced campaigner Sceau Royal is another notable name on the list alongside Brian Ellison’s Salsada, James Owen’s Too Friendly, and Iain Jardine’s Voix Du Reve.

    An Exciting Showdown Awaits

The upcoming Fighting Fifth Hurdle promises to be a thrilling clash between some of the finest hurdlers in racing today. With Constitution Hill making his highly-anticipated return against potential challengers such as You Wear It Well and Love Envoi among others, fans can expect an exhilarating spectacle.

As the trainers prepare their runners for this prestigious event, racing enthusiasts eagerly await the day when these exceptional athletes take to Newcastle’s turf. Stay tuned for a fierce battle of skill and determination in what is certain to be an unforgettable day at the races.
