Cobden optimistic for triumph at Ascot

Harry Cobden Looks to Ascot and Pic D’Orhy for Consolation

As the Betfair Chase approaches, jockey Harry Cobden finds himself having to miss out on riding Bravemansgame. However, he remains optimistic about his upcoming rides at Ascot.

    A Change in Plans

Cobden, who serves as stable jockey for Paul Nicholls, has always been in the saddle of Bravemansgame during his races. Unfortunately, due to a full book of rides awaiting him at Ascot, it will be Daryl Jacob who takes control at Haydock.

The Main Attraction at Ascot – Pic D’Orhy!

The highlight of Cobden’s day at Ascot is undoubtedly Pic D’Orhy. This talented horse was a Grade One winner at Aintree in its most recent race and is now entered into the Grade Two 1965 Chase alongside Nicky Henderson’s Shishkin.

“Obviously I’m disappointed not to be riding the best horse in the yard in Bravemansgame,” said Cobden. “But you’ve got to do what is right for the yard and the owners.”

Pic D’Orhy proved its class by winning last season’s Melling Chase at Aintree. Now, facing off against Shishkin once again, Cobden is excited to ride this exceptional horse.

“It’s a bit of a rematch as he got the better of us in the race last year,” Cobden explained. “But I do know Paul has been getting lots of work into Pic D’Orhy and he’ll be ready to rock and roll on Saturday.”

    A Tough Challenge Ahead

While acknowledging that it will be a difficult race, Cobden believes in Pic D’Orhy’s potential for success. The jockey stated, “We’ll need to put in a career-best performance to beat him, but it’s definitely possible and we’re looking forward to it. It should be a great race.”

    A Clash of Meetings

Trainer Paul Nicholls confirmed that the decision was purely due to scheduling conflicts rather than any other factors. Nicholls also expressed his confidence in both horses and riders.

“Harry is going to Ascot to ride Pic D’Orhy who had such a good season last year from which I hope he’s improved further,” said Nicholls.

The clash between two major meetings meant that Harry Cobden couldn’t be at two places simultaneously. In such cases, careful planning becomes essential.

Nicholls added: “When there are multiple big events on Saturdays, you have to plan accordingly while ensuring you have someone available as first reserve.”

Daryl Jacob has been riding out for us and now gets the opportunity at Haydock Park’s Betfair Chase – where small fields make running more favorable than being confined within stables waiting for other races.
