Collin Morikawa commits to contributing $1,000 for each birdie in support of Maui wildfire rehabilitation

Collin Morikawa Pledges Support for Maui Wildfire Victims

In a heartfelt announcement, Collin Morikawa, the talented American golfer and two-time major champion, revealed his plans to donate $1,000 for every birdie he makes on the PGA Tour this month. The donations will be directed towards supporting those affected by the devastating wildfires in Maui, Hawaii.

The decision comes as no surprise given Morikawa’s personal connection to the island. Although born and raised in California, his family emigrated from Japan to Maui where his grandparents owned a restaurant in Lahaina. Unfortunately, their beloved establishment was tragically destroyed in the fires.

Morikawa took to Instagram to share his intentions with a post featuring a newspaper clipping of the now-gone Morikawa Restaurant. He expressed that Maui has always held a special place in his heart and emphasized how important it is for everyone to come together and support those in need during this crisis.

    A Desperate Situation on Maui

The situation on Maui is dire; these wildfires are predicted to become Hawaii’s largest natural disaster ever recorded. According to Hawaii Governor Josh Green, at least 55 people have lost their lives while thousands more have been displaced due to widespread destruction.

“Homes have been destroyed, families displaced and it’s far from over,” says Morikawa.
“The people of Hawaii are going to need all the support that we can give them.”
