Gerri Colombe Set to Lead Gordon Elliott’s Strong Team in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase

In what promises to be an electrifying event, Gerri Colombe will spearhead a powerful team under the guidance of renowned trainer Gordon Elliott in Saturday’s highly anticipated Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal.

Although Gerri Colombe narrowly missed maintaining his unbeaten record at the Cheltenham Festival back in March when he was beaten by The Real Whacker, he redeemed himself with a decisive victory in the Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree.

With an impressive career record of eight wins from nine outings, including three triumphs at the highest level, Gerri Colombe is a force to be reckoned with.

Elliott has made it clear that this season is all about the prestigious Cheltenham Gold Cup, and he believes that Saturday’s Ladbrokes Champion Chase serves as the perfect starting point for his ambitious campaign.

Stablemates Conflated and Delta Work are also set to take their chances in what promises to be an exhilarating race. With only six contenders left in contention after Tuesday’s confirmation stage, Elliott intends to fully support this Grade One event by entering two or possibly even three horses.

“We’ll definitely run two or three in it. It’s a Grade One race and you’ve got to support these races,” expressed Elliott when speaking about his plans.

In addition to Gerri Colombe, Elliott will field last year’s Grade One winner Conflated as well as Delta Work, who have both showcased their talents on numerous occasions.

This will serve as Gerri Colombe’s first run of the season before heading towards Cheltenham – the ultimate goal. The plan is for him to compete in two more races prior to the highly anticipated festival. According to Elliott, Saturday’s Ladbrokes Champion Chase provides an ideal opportunity for this talented horse’s seasonal debut.

Ash Tree Meadow and former stablemate Envoi Allen (now under Henry de Bromhead), along with 2021 Gold Cup champion Minella Indo from de Bromhead’s yard are among other potential contenders worth keeping an eye on during this thrilling competition.
