Corach Rambler set to make a comeback in Kelso for the upcoming season

Corach Rambler Begins Season at Kelso with Eye on Betfair Chase

The Grand National winner, Corach Rambler, is gearing up to kick-start his new season at Kelso – weather permitting – before setting his sights on a potential crack at the prestigious Betfair Chase.

Trainer Lucinda Russell has strategically chosen the Edinburgh Gin Chase, which will take place close to home at Borders track on October 28. This race will serve as a stepping stone towards bigger and more significant targets for Corach Rambler.

While contemplating a return to Aintree, where he triumphed in the Grand National, Russell acknowledges that it won’t be an easy task for her star horse. With a new handicap mark of 159, matching the incredible achievements of legends like Tiger Roll and Red Rum seems challenging.

“We’re planning to start him off at Kelso towards the end of this month if ground conditions allow us,” revealed Russell. “Afterwards, we’ll closely assess our performance in the Betfair Chase at Haydock. It will provide valuable insight into where we stand against these top-tier graded chasers and help us map out our plans for rest of the season.”

Russell further elaborated on her aspirations: “It would be fantastic to go back to Aintree since we know he excels there. However,” she cautioned, “the increased weight assignment this time around poses a greater challenge.”

Praising Corach Rambler’s exceptional post-National form and recovery last season, Russell expressed excitement over his potential improvement during summer training sessions: “Scu couldn’t believe how well he felt after such an intense race. In fact, we suspect he’s gotten even better over the summer break. The way he carries himself makes me think there’s still untapped greatness within him. If that’s the case, it’s absolutely thrilling for everyone involved.”

Describing her star horse as unique and unlike any other she has encountered, Russell highlighted Corach Rambler’s ability to communicate his well-being and temperament: “He just operates differently from the rest. He possesses an astute intelligence in everything he does, constantly providing us with insights about his condition and mood. We can’t wait to kick off the season with him.”
