Craig Cathcart, 34, Calls Time on Football Career: Northern Ireland and KV Kortrijk Player Hangs up his Boots

KV Kortrijk Defender Craig Cathcart Calls Time on Professional Football Career

In a surprising move, KV Kortrijk defender Craig Cathcart has decided to hang up his boots and retire from professional football after an illustrious career. The Northern Irishman leaves the game with an impressive tally of 73 caps for his national team.

The seasoned defender initially burst onto the scene at Manchester United but failed to secure a spot in the first-team roster before eventually making his way to Blackpool in 2010. However, it was during his time at Watford that he truly made a name for himself over the course of nine years.

Scoring two goals for Northern Ireland throughout his international career, Cathcart also captained the national side during Euro 2024 qualifiers against San Marino and Finland back in March. Unfortunately, injury struck him down during a match against Slovenia which ultimately ruled him out of subsequent games including one against Kazakhstan.

A free agent following his release by Watford earlier this year, Cathcart inked a one-year deal with Belgian top-flight club KV Kortrijk just weeks ago. This move marks another chapter in his football journey after experiencing a loan spell at Royal Antwerp during the 2007-08 season whilst still with Manchester United.
